forgotten space…

posted in T O D A Y | 1 Comment

The current state of arrangement; of placing and positioning objects within our living space, has given rise and form to an unintended existence of obscured and leftover space.
Space unobserved in our daily movements, acting as unwilling containers to minute things forgotten and unwanted.
Space constantly shrouded in darkness, motion-less air inhabited by nocturnal creatures unknown to the living daylight.
Space demarcated, rendered useless and deprived of its very reason to exist.
Space perceived as a nuisance, a crack where precious little things might wander into, forever forgotten.
Space where things remain still, coated with a fine layer of dust.
Space unexplored, un-bordered, lurking and watching as we go about our dailies, basking in the generous warmth of light, while the darkness will forever remain, unless until we  re-arrange.
Space obscured, left on its own, thriving under its specific conditions, occasional disturbance by a groping hand, seeking the strayed.
a moving, deserted house,
shifting things,
exposed light, blinding,
unforgiving to things unknown,
the perpetual asleep,
dark giving to light

the space behind my ear, never presenting…

“there is a monster under your bed, behind the closet, above the bookshelf, lurking quietly, sniffing out spaces you forget, deep in darkness while you while away…”

H O K O has always loved making things with their hands.

they dream of having a little web-shop one day, where they can sell their hand made porcelain keys, buttons, windchimes and mobiles of musical notes ♫♩♬ …

that is why H O K O is finally working very hard to fulfill this little dream.

lets close our eyes and wish for an un-broken key!

‘Conceptual Design in Context’ - Design Academy Masters Graduation 2008.

This is a brief documentation on the exhibition for Clara’s graduation work in july.

The result is the brand P O M O ,  a medium that advocates the potentials of ‘arrangement’ as a consideration in the designing process, developing new design language and experiences.

‘a man about’

OPENING NARRATIVE:

“It is within the trivialities of everyday, that i find the aesthetics of nothingness.”

“the void, the absence, the space in between co-existing among the common objects.”

“the invisible is much more present than the visible”

“we just have to look beyond the thing-ness of things”

PROJECT:

“For, we have lived among thing-ness for so long, that we forget there is nothing…”

The aesthetic of nothingness carries a materiality that consists not in its technique or material base, but in how it succeeds in transforming the place of thing-ness in our everyday. This exteriority of things gives form and directs our experience of the immaterial.

Through the writing of a novel that expounds on the banal everyday, words and images are drawn in reference to the normalcy of our interior dwelling. The experience of the absence, the void and the obscured that defines the non-being of Objects is raised towards a renewed awareness, placing the intrinsic function and physical presence of Objects as indicative and of no importance.

The invisible is always much more present than the visible, and nothingness remains close to us, we just have to look beyond the thing-ness of things.

This project is a realization of a Master’s research thesis at the Design Academy Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
